HOW TO GO

Who requires a visa at the Turkish Border?

Citizens of the list of countries shown below either do not require a visa or may receive a visa at a border gate.

Transit passengers continuing their journey by the first connecting aircraft within 24 hours, provided not leaving the airport and in possession of confirmed onward tickets do not require a visa.
Sticker-type entry visas: Tourists and business visitors who do require visas can obtain a multiple-entry sticker-type entry visa at the point of entry for a fee. Prices are dependent on nationality.

There are two types of visas in the Turkish practice:

1) Entry visa (single entry, multiple entry and entry with special annotations)

2) Transit visa (single and double transit)

Single entry visa is valid for one year and allows its holder, depending on the nationality and passport type, to stay in Turkey up to three months and to visit the country only one time.

Multiple entry visa is valid for up to five years and allows its holder to make multiple visits and, depending on the nationality and passport type he/she can stay one to three months each time he/she enters into Turkey.

Transit visa is valid for up to three months and allows the person to travel to another country through transiting the Turkish territory.

If the connecting flight to the third country does not require an overnight stay in Turkey, then no visa is necessary. In other words, Turkey does not issue Airport Transit Visa (ATV).

The passengers of cruise ships are allowed to enter and stay overnight in the port cities of Turkey upon the permission given by local border police authorities. These passengers are not required to obtain an entry visa to Turkey.

There is no direct flight to Ercan Airport except for Cyprus Turkish Airlines (KTHY) from London (Heathrow or Gatwick airports), Stansted and Manchester airports. All the other flights are via an airport in Turkey to Ercan. Conference attendees can choose any airline service to come to Istanbul Atatürk Airport. Then, from Istanbul to Ercan, several flights are available every day by the Turkish Airlines (THY), Cyprus Turkish Airways (KTHY), Atlas Jet and Pegasus. In addition, the THY has regular flights from all over the world to Istanbul and then to Ercan. Atlas Jet and Pegaus have some flights from some countries to Istanbul as well. There will be free transportation service from the Ercan Airport to the hotels.

Another way is to travel from the departure country directly to Larnaca Airport in South Cyprus.

There will be free transportation service from the Ercan Airport to CIU and the hotels for those arrivals a day before. Late comers will have to hire taxis from Ercan to Lefkoşa (Nicosia) or Girne (Kyrenia) which are 15 minutes and half an hour drive successively. Lefkoşa will cost about 30-50 and Girne 50-70 YTL (New Turkish Lira or approximately $50).

Its is strongly advised to use Ercan Airport and arrive on time in order to benefit from the free transportation facilities provided by CIU.

Travel will be arranged by Minas Tourism and Travel Agency which is the official travel agency of the Conference. Minas Travel (our travel agency) can offer you the best available connections and prices for flights to either North or South Cyprus.
